Personal Bio/ Summary

I think i’ve been in business my entire life. Even when I was working in the public service and as a project manager in private enterprise I was doing something on the side, exploring the idea of entrepreneurship. The first one I remember was starting a circus at the age of 6 when my parents first moved to Canberra. I can’t recall now if I just loved it because I was seeing my ‘Uncle Scrooge’ golden book come to life before my eyes, or all the 1c lollies I was able to buy with the proceeds.

Whilst importing and selling Ugg boots, making wine racks, and doing door to door sales during my misspent youth was fun it didn’t really have any direction and it was my exposure to the machine of government for 10 years, then in private enterprise for another 7 that gave me a real appreciation and understanding for strategy and efficiency. Not that anyone would generally call government efficient, but I certainly learnt what wasn’t.
In 2000 after completing a commerce degree at Uni I co founded the-riotact.com with a group of mates. Despite only having $600 to found the venture, it quickly grew and by 2006 we had in excess of 25,000 unique visitors per month. Looking back we made every mistake in the book for a new business, but through trial and error by 2012 that number was at 200,000 and serving over 18m pages per year, making it one of the largest independent media sites in Australia.
Almost universally, every one of my clients had a couple of problems. Either a lack of focus around their marketing, or an immature sales funnel. Just not enough steps in it. With only 2 staff we HAD to get it right and automate, there just wasn’t enough time to provide the experience we wanted to give to everyone we were reaching. But the businesses we had as clients weren’t doing any of that, and with an emerging online marketplace, were struggling.
Since leaving RiotACT i’ve been fortunate to work with thousands of business owners teaching them just how to incorporate digital marketing into their strategies and harness business automation technologies to provide massive leverage for growth.
